Veggie Street Day 2008

I spent the entire past weekend trying to prevent stalls and leaflets from being blown around by the wind, and the consequence of that is that instead of seeing Conor Oberst live oder going to a demo in Dresden, I'm staying inside with a cold and probably will all weekend T_T

I hate petty sicknesses like this, especially it's an occasion for many people to point a finger at me and say "It's because your vegan.", oh how I loathe it!

Anyway, last Sunday I was at the theatre, no pictures from that (though they had awesome "flying cows" outside!), but Saturday was Veggie Street Day in Dortmund, one of the few vegan fairs in Germany.

Time flew by, meeting all kinds of people (when did I happen to meet them all?) and eating not quite as much as I would've liked to.

Anyway, I only spent 5 €... it was a cheap day that started with me finding a whole bunch of bananas on the street. I carefully looked around me and then decided to take them with me, freeganism made easy!

Then there was veganwondercakes (affiliated with the awesome www.veganwonderland.de) with those beauties that, alas, weren't up for sale until 4 pm:

So instead we decided to go for the regular bakes sale, which was also awesome, though not quite as pretty:

In the afternoon, it got really crowded and there was a singer who looked like a blonde version of Chris de Burgh.

There also was a tombola, and I won a baggy of vegan white chocolate chips (and a guy who won a small purse gave it to me)!

I can't post this without mentioning the hero of the day, sunflower guy... he showed up at some point and everyone thought he was part of the veggie thing... but it turned out that he was promoting some crazy event which includes teenagers having to climb up a tower and then sit in a tippee where Mr Sunflower would answer questions they have about sex.
(no, I'm not on crack and that's exactly what the leaftlet said!)

Anyway, after I had tried to sneak a proper picture of Mr Sunflower, he finally revealed his true self next to a vegan chili stand:

All those vegan baked goods look so yummy. I hope you feel better soon. Do people really think you catch a cold because of being vegan? It is strange - since becoming vegetarian my health has IMPROVED dramatically. There is so much that people don't know. That sunflower guy cracked me up.

haha I would've done the same with the bananas - never like to pass up an opportunity with free food (will be raiding an apple tree this weekend I'm sure!)
I don't think I'd know what to do with some of those fancy looking cakes - eat them? wear them??! - they look awesome though!
